We do not have to waste our natural inheritance on lewd, crude, rebellious living in order to be seen as prodigal sons. We also are prodigal sons if we are wasting our spiritual inheritance by not taking advantage of, never utilizing, the immeasurable spiritual riches of His Grace that are at our disposal. The Good News is that it doesn’t matter whether we are visibly lost (unsaved; spiritually dead and wandering in faraway territories) or whether we are lost while at home with God (lost children in the household of Faith). The Divine Truth is that God has placed a great value on every spiritually lost and spiritually sick soul who willingly comes to Him by Grace and through Faith in His Son (Jesus the Christ)—the younger prodigal son. Additionally, God also has placed a great value on every spiritually unfaithful and contentious believer, so much so that He kindly corrects him or her so that he or she also will see (via His Holy Spirit and His Word) his or her true identity and relationship (condition and position) in God’s family—the older prodigal son. Lastly, once we who are like the younger and older wayward prodigal sons repent and turn to God with either a contrite reborn heart/spirit or a repentant renewed mind, we both are welcomed back home.
