It has been proven that our prejudices are formed at a very early age. This truth means that our children can quickly learn from us how to be racists—how to hate certain people. Thankfully, the good news is that our taught biases can be unlearned. The uncomfortable truth, however, is that, if we truly love God the way He expects us to and/or the way we say we do, we could have chosen not to teach this horrid ugliness to our children.
The harsh truth is that when we angrily call someone a dirtbag, we (believers in and followers of Christ Jesus) are demonstrating that we are absentminded. In other words, we are showing God and mankind that we have forgotten that we all come from DIRT.
Contrary to the Pharisees’ understanding of and opinions about the Law, Jesus the Christ says that true obedience to the Law is inextricably connected to their inner attitudes. This Divine Truth is why the Lord begins His Sermon on the Mount with the BE-ATTITUDES (the attitudes that must be in their inward parts—in their hearts/human spirits—because it is their inner attitudes that control what they think, say, and do).
