Crickets

One night the Lord said to Paul in a vision, “Do not be afraid anymore, but go on speaking and do not be silent;  for I am with you, and no one will attack you in order to hurt you, because I have many people in this city.” ~ Acts 18:9-10, AMP

Therefore if there is any encouragement and comfort in Christ [as there certainly is in abundance], if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship [that we share] in the Spirit, if [there is] any [great depth of] affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, having the same love [toward one another], knit together in spirit, intent on one purpose [and living a life that reflects your faith and spreads the gospel—the good news regarding salvation through faith in Christ]. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves. ~ Philippians 2:1-3, AMP

The term “crickets” refers to the nonresponse a believer in Christ receives, for example, after posting a call-to-action message. Put differently, the sound of silence is CRICKETS—what a follower of Christ hears after asking several people groups to work on creating unity by loving each other, respecting each other, listening to each other, supporting each other, and defending each other.

Today’s churches are filled with people who talk a good game, but when challenged to practice what they preach – crickets. Then too, many churchgoers profess that they love God, but when they are asked to show the same love they have for God to their neighbors – crickets. Another example is the way many confessed believers in Christ are united only within their own denominations. When they are invited to unite with other brothers and sisters in Christ from different denominations – crickets.  Sadly, most denominational Christians won’t even unite over issues they have in common. Every time they are asked to do so – crickets.

Oh, the hypocrisy of it all—believers in Christ who declare they believe in the Scriptures, yet they do not do what every Scripture tells them to do. For instance, the apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1:10 that believers should be in total agreement, including being united in the way they think and the way they judge matters of faith. When believers today are asked to demonstrate the same oneness – crickets.

22 And the rib or part of his side which the Lord God had taken from the man He built up and made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 Then Adam said, This [creature] is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of a man.  24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. ~ Genesis 2:22-24, AMPC

3 And Pharisees came to Him and put Him to the test by asking, Is it lawful and right to dismiss and repudiate and divorce one’s wife for any and every cause? 4 He replied, Have you never read that He Who made them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be united firmly (joined inseparably) to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder (separate). 7 They said to Him, Why then did Moses command [us] to give a certificate of divorce and thus to dismiss and repudiate a wife? 8 He said to them, Because of the hardness (stubbornness and perversity) of your hearts Moses permitted you to dismiss and repudiate and divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been so [ordained]. 9 I say to you: whoever dismisses (repudiates, divorces) his wife, except for unchastity, and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

10 The disciples said to Him, If the case of a man with his wife is like this, it is neither profitable nor advisable to marry. 11 But He said to them, Not all men can accept this saying, but it is for those to whom [the capacity to receive] it has been given. 12 For there are eunuchs who have been born incapable of marriage; and there are eunuchs who have been made so by men; and there are eunuchs who have made themselves incapable of marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let him who is able to accept this accept it. ~ Matthew 19:3-12, AMPC

2 And some Pharisees came up, and, in order to test Him and try to find a weakness in Him, asked, Is it lawful for a man to dismiss and repudiate and divorce his wife? 3 He answered them, What did Moses command you? 4 They replied, Moses allowed a man to write a bill of divorce and to put her away. 5 But Jesus said to them, Because of your hardness of heart [your condition of insensibility to the call of God] he wrote you this precept in your Law. 6 But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female. 7 For this reason a man shall leave [behind] his father and his mother and be joined to his wife and cleave closely to her permanently, 8 And the two shall become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has united (joined together), let not man separate or divide.

10 And indoors the disciples questioned Him again about this subject. 11 And He said to them, Whoever dismisses (repudiates and divorces) his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; 12 And if a woman dismisses (repudiates and divorces) her husband and marries another, she commits adultery. ~ Mark 10:2-12, AMPC

According to Hebrew thought, basar — the Hebrew word for “flesh” — refers not only to the physical body but also to the whole person. In other words, the Hebrew word for “flesh” (basar) not only can mean either the flesh for the body or the body itself, but also the Hebrew word for “flesh” (basar) can mean “person.”

Since the human soul and spirit are housed in the human body, which also is called “the flesh,” this truth makes the idea of becoming “one flesh” mean so much more than “married” men and women experiencing a Physical Unity — the oneness that is achieved when male and female marriage partners fit perfectly together, sexually speaking. Additionally, becoming “one flesh” means that “married” men and women also experience a Unity of Spirit — the oneness that is achieved when male and female marriage partners’ spirits (hearts) become “one flesh” (one person) in YeHoVaH who is SPIRIT. Lastly, becoming “one flesh” also means that “married” men and women experience a Unity of Emotions — the oneness that is achieved when male and female marriage partners’ emotions (their individual soul’s voice) become “one voice” so as to “fill out” or complete both the married male and the married female in every respect.

In other words, this one-flesh oneness that YeHoVaH mentions in Genesis 2:24  is the soulish-kind of marriage. This kind of marriage only happens when male and female – two living souls – are united into one “whole” person via their living souls’ emotions, as well as via their living souls’ minds and their living souls’ wills.

Just think about what we learn in Genesis 2:22. We learn that Eve came out of Adam! So, all YeHoVaH has done — via His institution of marriage – was to reunite them. He made them ONE again.

For sure, the only way a male and a female can experience the above-stated three unities is if YeHoVaH unites them, and Genesis 2:22-24 verses clearly state that He is the One who joins them together in marriage. Once again, it was YeHoVaH who took the woman (Eve) out of the man (Adam), and then He reunited them — made them ONE again — via His institution of marriage. This Divine Truth is why a signed and recorded marriage certificate doesn’t necessarily mean a couple is married in YeHoVaH’s eyes.

Without a doubt, the above explanations of what becoming “one flesh” truly means are why YeHoVah declares that the married couples who are “one flesh” in Him only can be fully/completely separated by DEATH! Any other kinds of separations, whether legal or otherwise, as in local governments’ (man-approved) separations and divorces for ANY reasons (mainly for irreconcilable differences; no-fault divorces); or as in spousal rejections, disownments, renouncements, or abandonments (spousal repudiations); and so on, just mean that these separated or earthly divorced married couples have been put asunder — have had their souls’ emotions, wills, and minds forcefully ripped into separate pieces. Being ripped into separate pieces is the very thing that YeHoVaH never wanted His married “one flesh” couples to experience. This put asunder Divine Truth is why YeHoVaH declares that ONLY a physical DEATH can completely/absolutely/wholly separate couples He has joined together. If couples He has married are divorced according to their earthly laws that each state has established, then these couples are in pieces – not entirely detached/disconnected.

Additionally, couples who divorce for reasons other than the ones YeHoVaH gives in His Word as exceptions to remaining married (one flesh) until death should know that even divorcing someone for adultery — the MAIN reason one-flesh married men can use for divorcing their wives — also causes male and female’s united souls and spirits to be ripped into pieces. No doubt this inevitable ripping is why YeHoVaH says that those whom He has joined together only can be properly separated by death. This ripping, no doubt, is why the Mosaic Law couldn’t allow a Jewish woman with a certificate of divorce to remarry UNTIL her former husband had died. To remarry before her former spouse died would have put that woman in an adulterous relationship.

As I mention in this article and in a different blog entry, (“For Richer or Poorer…For Better or Worse”), there are scriptural exceptions to Father God’s Command to stay married until death separates a couple He joined together. Those exceptions are Matthew 19:9 (physical adultery; sexual intercourse with someone other than one’s husband or wife); and 1 Corinthians 7:15 abandonment—being deserted by an unbelieving spouse. However, even with these two scriptural exceptions, Father God makes it clear that He hates divorce (cf. Malachi 2:16, Matthew 19:6, Mark 10:11-12, 1 Corinthians 7:12-13). Furthermore, the fact that YeHoVaH prefers that His Children work on their marriages instead of getting a divorce, for any reason YeHoVaH makes allowance for, is suggested in 1 Peter 3:1-6.

Concerning divorce, even though YeHoVaH makes allowances so that His Sons and Daughters can get a divorce, Yeshua teaches that the man who “…dismisses (repudiates and divorces) his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; And if a woman dismisses (repudiates and divorces) her husband and marries another, she commits adultery” (Mark 10:11-12, AMPC). In essence, Yeshua is saying that the certificate of divorce only allows for the divorce. Under the Law, because a married man and a married woman would remain bound to their spouses until their spouses die, neither the former wife nor for husband can remarry. Apostle Paul touches on this last statement. In another one of my blog entries, (“Your Old Man Is DEAD”), I discuss how the apostle Paul uses his marriage analogy (metaphor or comparison) that is in Romans 7:1-6 to explain how, even though the Law isn’t dead, that a reborn and saved believer is dead to the Law that YeHoVaH gave to Moses because that Law can no longer keep a new creature in Yeshua married to It. This Divine Truth is why a dead to the Law believer in Yeshua can remarry — can become His Bride.

What is important to note here about apostle Paul’s marriage analogy is that, in accordance with the Mosaic Law, a woman who was married could not divorce her husband. She was bound to her husband by the Law, even if he decided to divorce her for the legal reason of sexual infidelity. Now, even if she were divorced because she had sexual intercourse with a man who wasn’t her husband, though she would be legally divorced she also would be legally forbidden to marry another man, as long as her first husband was living. The bottom line here is that only DEATH could cancel the power and authority that the Jewish marriage Law had to bind a couple for life. Thus, apostle Paul makes it clear that when the legally divorced Jewish woman’s husband dies, then and only then would she no longer be bound to her former husband. At the time of his death, the Law no longer had the power or the authority to keep her bound to a dead ex-spouse.

Now, what shouldn’t be overlooked in apostle Paul’s marriage analogy is the fact that, according to the Mosaic Law, it is YeHoVaH who doesn’t give the legally divorced woman permission to remarry. The primary reason why He doesn’t give her permission is because if she got married to a second husband who also ends up divorcing her or who dies before she does, by Law, there would be no way for her to return to her first husband should he decide that he would take her back. Secondly, if she married a second husband while her first husband was still alive then marriage number two would make her an adulteress. In Matthew 19:9, the main difference between Paul’s teaching and Yeshua’s is it is a man who legally divorces his wife and then remarries while his divorced wife is still alive.

In the apostle Paul’s marriage analogy found in Romans 7:1-6, he makes it clear that the Torah only has authority/dominion over the wife, as long as her first husband still lives. When he dies, she is free from the very Law that otherwise not only would have prevented her from divorcing her husband but also would have prevented her, as a LEGAL divorcee, from marrying someone else while her first husband was still alive. Paul also points out that If she remarried before her first husband died, she would be committing adultery. Once again, the main difference between Paul’s teaching and Yeshua’s is that in Mark 10:11-12 Yeshua teaches that BOTH the divorced man and the divorced woman should not remarry while his or her former spouse is still alive, because if either remarries then he or she will be committing adultery against his or her divorced spouse.

There are several biblical passages that specifically deal with the Mosaic Law, as it pertains to divorce and a forbidden remarriage. Three of those passages are as follows: Deuteronomy 24:1-4, Matthew 5:31-32, and Romans 7:3.

No matter how people interpret Scripture, there can be no denying that YeHoVaH hates divorce (see Malachi 2:16, Matthew 19:6, Mark 10:11-12, and 1 Corinthians 7:12-13)! This Divine Truth should be very important to today’s believers, especially since believers and non-believers, when facing difficult or tumultuous marital circumstances, are not only too eager to dump their spouses but also very eager to feel that their divorce is justified. Believers, thus, need to know that, even though many of them will be tempted to divorce their spouses for many reasons, they must not rebel against YeHoVaH’s Commands pertaining to His institution of marriage. If believers do rebel, especially in this Rapture season, they very well could end up also walking away from their own salvation (that is to say, they could fall away from the faith and end up eternally separated from Father God).

As I also have said, in yet another blog entry, (“Body, Soul, and Spirit: The Tripartite Being”), human souls and spirits are eternal, because they come from out of the eternal Father’s Soul and Spirit. Indeed, a rabbinical tradition that is based on the Babylonian Talmud teaches that YeHoVaH created souls AND spirits. Rabbinical tradition also teaches that the “unborn” souls and spirits, that is, those souls and spirits that are waiting for YeHoVaH to unite them for the first time with their earthly bodies, live in the seventh heaven (Araboth — the holiest of the seven Heavens; YeHoVaH’s Home, and the place where His Throne of Glory is located). Lastly, rabbinical tradition teaches that the righteous souls and spirits that have been separated from their bodies also live in the Seventh Heaven (see Chagigah 12b).

The above Divine Truth is why we say someone is an “old soul,” even though he or she is a very young person. The point here is that it does not matter when human beings are born into existence — when people begin to live within time — because human beings already existed as eternal souls (minds) and eternal spirits (hearts). There are several biblical passages that prove this point. One familiar passage is Jeremiah 1:5.

Finally, there are far too many married believers in Yeshua who fail to grasp the enormous tragedy they participate in when they allow life’s sooner-or-later difficulties to tear asunder (break into pieces) their souls and spirits — in essence, their whole lives. Too many rely on their own or others’ interpretations of the Scriptures instead of relying on the Holy Spirit’s Revelations. True! Humans, without the aid of the Holy Spirit, only can interpret what they think YeHoVaH is saying in His Word.  Fortunately, YeHoVaH gave us the Holy Spirit to teach us, and the Holy Spirit is the only One who can REVEAL all truths and all mysteries.

One biblical truth that’s also a mystery the Holy Spirit revealed to me is that married couples’ eternal souls and eternal spirits that became one flesh when YeHoVaH joined them together will get their souls and spirits ripped into pieces when they follow their local government’s separation and divorce laws and become legally separated or legally divorced. Ultimately, in some cases, their separations and/or divorces will cause their torn asunder one-flesh souls and spirits to be eternally separated — they’ll never be reunited with their soulmates’ souls and spirits. Then too, if their separations or divorces also cause their united with YeHoVaH souls and spirits to fall away from the faith, these souls and spirits may never return to the Seventh Heaven. Selah . . . . . .

Seven Unities

Christian Unity

There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call—one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ’s gift. ~ Ephesians 4:4-7, ESV

There are seven unities that all believers in the Body of Christ share. As members of ONE Body of Believers, we all have Father God’s ONE Spirit. Then too, our ONE Father calls us to ONE Hope through ONE Faith in ONE Lord and ONE Baptism. These seven unties bind us—all believers in Christ—to one another. These seven unities also perfect us—they spiritually complete believers who are true Christ followers.

Now even though we all do not have the same function—we are not all pastors—our Lord’s true Body has no divisions. In other words, it is because of God’s seven Unities that we all should be preaching and teaching the same Divine Truths. According to the unadulterated Word of God, it is by His ONE Spirit that we all make up Christ’s ONE Body. It also is by His ONE Spirit that we all have the same Commission our ONE Lord (ONE Master) first gives to His initial Disciples.

The bottom line is that we all possess equal status in the Kingdom of God—we born again and saved Christ followers are Kingdom of God Citizens. Most important is the fact that—as Kingdom of God Citizens—our equal status is independent of our measure of faith. Our equal status also is independent of our spiritual callings. In Christ our function(s), our level of spirituality, our years of formal training, our years in His Vineyard, our years in a local church, or our chronological age neither makes any of us more important nor less influential than someone else in the Kingdom of God. The point here is that—regardless if we are first-century or twenty-first century believers in Christ—the unity that Christ’s finished Work on the Cross makes possible for His Body to have is more important to God than our diversities. Unfortunately, we neither seek nor welcome the unity God wants to see in the Body of Christ—the unity that is the Godhead kind of Oneness.

God does not want us to have any divisions. This truth is why He is not pleased with our different ideologies, theologies and denominations. He sees how they divide us into opposing groups of disciples. He sees how our friendly-fire skirmishes deny the Oneness that His indivisible Unities give us. This truth is why we—Christ’s Disciples—need to seek and receive the Oneness that God desires to see in Christ’s ONE Body. Shalom.

Rightly Dividing = Dealing Straightforwardly

20 Monday Aug 2012

cut straight, dealing straightforwardly, harmony, oneness, orthotomeō, right thinking, rightly dividing the Word of Truth, stinking thinking, teach the truth directly and correctly, unity in ALL believers

Do all you can to present yourself to God as someone worthy of his approval, as a worker with no need to be ashamed, because he deals straightforwardly with the Word of the Truth.  ~ 2 Timothy 2:15, CJB

Most believers assume that to rightly divide Scripture means to correctly interpret it. While correctly interpreting the Word of God is certainly a crucial objective, this definition does not exactly describe what the phrase rightly divide actually means. Then too, since the Word of God has no doctrinal lies, no doctrinal errors in it, when we rightly divide the Word of Truth we are NOT separating doctrinal lies or errors from scriptural Truth or accuracy/validity. Therefore, the Divine Truth is that when we are rightly dividing the Word of God we are, as the Greek word orthotomeō literally denotes, cutting straight, or guiding on a straight path.

In other words, if the Word of God is cut and/or directed correctly, then the person who is reading, preaching, and/or teaching the Word of God is the man or woman who is, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, getting and/or giving the true sense of the Divine Truth that is contained in the Scriptures. He or she will not be perverting or deleting any of God’s Word—he or she neither will be distorting nor taking away from or adding to the Word of God. Then too, he or she will not be turning people away from the Divine Truth with his or her own false teaching or his or her own agendas.

Contrary to the popular opinions about what rightly dividing the Word of God means, the person who is rightly dividing the Scriptures will be the godly man or woman who, by explaining and applying the whole Gospel that is in God’s Word, will be pointing out God’s Divine Truths by plainly yet faithfully writing about, preaching, and/or teaching what actually is in the complete Word of God. This person does so without withholding, misrepresenting, or sugarcoating anything that is beneficial to the people who are hearing or reading what has been spoken or written about any specific biblical Truth. Even if what is being written about, preached, or taught is hard for some people to accept because they prefer to apply their 21st century cultural interpretations to the Word of God, or hard for some people to accept because they prefer to apply their natural intellectual wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to supernatural spiritual wisdom, knowledge and understanding, or hard for some people to accept because they can’t find certain theological terms, like “Rapture,” “Trinity,” or even “Bible,” in the Word of God, or hard for some people to accept because what they are listening to or reading goes against what has traditionally been written, preached or taught, the person called of God to preach and teach His Word at such a time as this still should be rightly dividing the Word of God (see also 2 Timothy 4:2-4).

Put differently, the Holy Spirit filled godly man or woman who is rightly dividing the Word of Truth is treating God’s Word honestly and fully, in a straightforward manner. The point here is that because there are so many ways to distort the meaning of God’s Truths that are either concealed or revealed in His Word, then the only way that there ever will be any true unity of ALL believers is when ALL believers agree with (are in harmony with) what the Word of God actually says. This harmony, however, only can be achieved by the teaching, enlightening, prompting, and leading of the Holy Spirit, who doesn’t give two or three different interpretations of scriptural Truths. Indeed, even using traditional hermeneutics (the science and art of interpreting meaning from a written text) often results in different interpretations of said text, because hermeneutics is established man-made rules that are used to interpret God’s Word!

For the record, God gave His children His Holy Spirit so that the Holy Spirit would unite ALL believers by teaching them God’s Divine Truths. Put differently, where God’s Word is concerned, the Holy Spirit helps ALL believers have right/correct thinking instead of stinking thinking. For this reason, believers’ harmony, oneness/unity, will be witnessed not only in what all believers profess to believe about the Truth the Scriptures convey but also in how all believers live their lives publicly and privately.

A favorite Christian quote that supports the kind of harmony or oneness that comes from rightly dividing the Word of God is as follows:

It is perilous to separate thinking rightly, from acting rightly. He is already half false who speculates on truth and does not do it. The penalty paid by him who speculates on truth without doing it, is, that by degrees the very truth he holds becomes a falsehood. ~ Frederick W. Robertson

There can be no doubt that Robertson is echoing James 1:22 (CJB), which reads: “Don’t deceive yourselves by only hearing what the Word says, but do it!”

The bottom line is, when the Holy Spirit teaches, enlightens, prompts, and leads God’s children, especially on how the Word of Truth should be rightly divided (how they should cut straight; teach the truth directly and correctly; and deal straightforwardly), every genuinely born again, saved, filled with the Holy Spirit, and being sanctified believer would have the same supernatural spiritual wisdom, knowledge, and understanding about the Divine Truth that is in any biblical verse. There would be no way that conflicting opinions or meanings could exist, because there never would be two or three, or more, interpretations of any single biblical Truth.

Once again, God gave us the Holy Spirit so that He not only would make us one with our brothers and sisters, but also so that He would make us one with our Lord and our Father God. Clearly we never can be one with God, Christ Jesus, and our Household of Faith siblings if our “rightly dividing” of the Word of Truth causes us to preach, teach, and/or write about different understandings of the same biblical passages!

Finally, whether writing, teaching, and/or preaching the rightly divided Word of God, the Scriptures always should be presented accurately, straightforwardly, as a single, unified whole, without taking any detours and without having any concealed or revealed agendas. Ultimately, by faithfully and authoritatively rightly dividing the Word of God, the presenter will be demonstrating to his or her readers and/or listeners that God’s Word is a marvelous whole from beginning to end—that God’s eternal plan of salvation, as depicted in the Holy Bible from Genesis to Revelation, is ONE unified (harmonious) plan. This last reason is why God’s children also must be unified (harmonious) in how they rightly divide God’s Word.

Body, Soul, and Spirit: The Tripartite Being

The Tripartite Being

Now may God himself, the God of peace, make you pure, belonging only to him. May your whole self—spirit, soul, and body—be kept safe and without fault when our Lord Jesus Christ comes. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:23, NCV

Then God said, ‘Let us make human beings in our image and likeness. And let them rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the tame animals, over all the earth, and over all the small crawling animals on the earth.’ So God created human beings in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female. ~ Genesis 1:26-27, NCV

Whether we are men or women, boys or girls, each one of us is a three-in-one person. In other words, we reflect the tripartite nature of our Creator God, who is the quintessential Trinity.

Concerning our tripartite nature, each one of us has a BODY (external, physical layer responsive to humans’ touch, taste, smell, sight, hearing); a SOUL (inner, non-physical layer responsive to humans’ thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, affections, desires, emotions, memory, intellect, imagination, will, conscience), and a SPIRIT (innermost, non-physical layer, before the Fall and after regeneration, responsive to God’s Grace, Word, Faith, Love, Prayer, Forgiveness, Discipline, Correction, Repentance, Hope, Holy Spirit, Illumination, Sanctification, Glorification). Without a doubt, each one of  us has a physical part, which is our BODY, and two non-physical parts: our SOUL and our SPIRIT.

Now, contrary to some popular opinions, the biblical Scriptures do differentiate between mankind’s living SOUL and mankind’s central SPIRIT. According to biblical Scriptures, mankind became a living SOUL after God breathed the breath of life (His Holy Spirit) into Adam, the first man (cf. Genesis 2:7). However, after Adam’s Fall, every human being’s non-physical central SPIRIT is spiritually dead, yet because of God’s Holiness, Love and Grace, He establishes a way to interact with mankind’s non-physical central SPIRIT, especially when God wants to influence, regenerate, redeem, justify, inspire, correct, discipline, teach, sanctify, and/or glorify a human being (see 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12).

Then too, based on the Babylonian Talmud, rabbinical tradition teaches that God created souls AND spirits. Rabbinical tradition also teaches that the “unborn” souls and spirits, that is, those souls and spirits that are waiting for God to unite them for the first time with their earthly bodies, live in the seventh heaven (Araboth). Lastly, rabbinical tradition teaches that the righteous souls and spirits that have been separated from their bodies also live in the seventh heaven (cf. Babylonian Talmud Chagigah 12b).

Now because too many people believe that mankind is only a physical being, and because too many people believe in the more popular bipartite view of body and spirit (a view in which the soul and spirit are understood to be the same thing), mankind, as a whole, only will be able to understand fully the triune God (see Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14), after each one of us better understands this Divine Truth: We are triune beings who, according to biblical Scripture, have been created in God’s Three In One image (cf. Genesis 1:26, NCV). More important, in order for us to understand fully the Christian doctrine of immortality, meaning the endless/eternal conscious existence of the human SOUL (see Romans 2:7; 1 Corinthians 15:51-54; 2 Timothy 1:10), we first must understand fully mankind’s tripartite nature.

Just as Almighty God Himself is a Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), each one of us also is a Trinity (Body, Soul, and Spirit). Of mankind’s three distinctive parts, God has the strongest affinity for mankind’s unregenerate SPIRIT. Every human being is born with a sin nature; mankind is born in bondage to sin and, thus, every unsaved person is out of fellowship with God. Because, mankind’s old sin nature is worldly, the BODY, SOUL and SPIRIT are habitually selfish, greedy, and proud. The apostle John agrees, because he writes:

These are the ways of the world: wanting to please our sinful selves, wanting the sinful things we see, and being too proud of what we have. None of these come from the Father, but all of them come from the world. (1 John 2:16, NCV)

In other words, because mankind’s unregenerate SPIRIT is spiritually dead to God’s Divine Truths, the gates to every lost SOUL’s affections, desires, and faculties (intellect, wisdom, common sense, conscience, etc.) are not turned toward God. Consequently, everything that can tempt a human being’s lost SOUL and influence what he or she thinks, does, and/or says will enter into a lost SOUL through the BODY’s five unchecked “gateways”: eyes, ears, mouth, nose, and fingers and hands.

For the abovementioned reasons, before mankind’s unregenerate SPIRIT can receive God’s spiritual Truths  about an eternal life with God and about everything that would make the natural man and woman, boy and girl, an overcomer in this world (cf. 1 Corinthians 2:14; 1 John 5:4), God first has to regenerate mankind’s SPIRIT. Once the SPIRIT is born again from above (cf. John 3:6-8), this SPIRIT then is able to receive God’s spiritual Truths and is able to convince the BODY to die daily while convincing the SOUL to be spiritually renewed daily (cf. Romans 12:1-2).

More important, because a person’s regenerated SPIRIT affects the BODY’s five senses and the SOUL’s affections, desires, and faculties (intellect, wisdom, common sense, conscience, etc.), the now Holy Spirit illuminated born-again SPIRIT is able to check whatever comes through the BODY’s five gateways so that the SOUL ends up surrendering its affections, desires, and faculties to God’s affections, desires and faculties. The point here is that the Holy Spirit’s most important goal is not only to make a believer’s BODY, SOUL, and SPIRIT one (make all three parts immortal), just like the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are One (all three Persons are eternal); but also the Holy Spirit’s job is to make every imperfect (unholy) BODY, SOUL, and SPIRIT holy (perfect), like the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit are HOLY (perfect)—like each of the three Persons of the Trinity is identified as being HOLY! This call to Holiness is the ONENESS reality Christ Jesus prays for in John 17:21.

For the above-stated reasons, Christ Jesus prays:

Father, I pray that they can be one. As you are in me and I am in you, I pray that they can also be one in us. Then the world will believe that you sent me. ~ John 17:21, NCV

It should be noted here that there is no way that human beings ever could be in GOD, in Christ, and in the Holy Spirit, if one of human beings’ three parts (Body, Soul, and Spirit) is not HOLY. Moreover, there can be no doubt that this threefold perfection (holiness) is what the apostle Paul means when he writes:

Now may God himself, the God of peace, make you pure, belonging only to him. May your whole self—spirit, soul, and body—be kept safe and without fault when our Lord Jesus Christ comes. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:23, NCV

Thus, for Christ Jesus as well as for apostle Paul, the bottom line is: Holiness is the Oneness reality of the triune God’s nature. For sure, God’s Holiness character is fundamentally essential to His identity—essential to knowing who God really is. So because His innermost nature is Holiness, God’s Holy disposition is without a doubt the main reason why both the unity and the diversity of the triune God hold together. Put differently, Holiness is the true essence of God, for Holiness not only is the name of God but also Holiness is most characteristic of His nature. God’s Holiness, thus, defines or strengthens all of His godly attributes. For these reasons, where godly Oneness is concerned, God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are indivisible (inseparable), because they are perfectly joined together, having the exact same mindset, judgment, AND holiness (character or disposition or nature).

Furthermore, it is God Himself who calls us to Holiness, for the purpose of sharing in God’s Holiness character. Not only does the Scripture confirm that God graciously invites us to “…share in God’s nature…” (2 Peter 1:4, NCV), but also, as mentioned earlier, this sharing in God’s Holiness is the ONENESS reality that Christ Jesus prays for in John 17:21. That’s why, as God’s Holy Spirit takes each one of us through God’s progressive sanctification, or the process by which we obtain God’s kind of Holiness, so that we also will have the same kind of Oneness that is in THE Trinity, we can rest assured that our wholly sanctified (fully pure and fully Holy nature) not only means our SPIRIT and SOUL are perfected but also means God has fulfilled the promised transformation that gives us our glorified BODY’s.

In other words, the work of the sanctifying Holy Spirit is to make each born again, saved, and justified believer a Kingdom of God resident who, like Christ Jesus, epitomizes the indivisible (inseparable) Oneness reality. In view of that, just as each of the three Persons of the Trinity is identified as being HOLY, eventually each of our three distinctive parts (BODY, SOUL, and SPIRIT) also will be identified as being HOLY. Consequently, each believer’s BODY, SOUL, and SPIRIT will be perfectly joined together with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and THEY ALL will have the exact same mindset, judgment, AND holiness (character or disposition or nature). AMEN!

True Love

God’s VALENTINE To The World

For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ. But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. ~ 2 Corinthians 11:2-3, ESV; cf. The Parable of the Ten Virgins, Matthew 25:1-13; and Revelation 19:7-9

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand’ring bark . . . ~ William Shakespeare, Sonnet 116, lines 1-7

Hardly anyone will dispute this fact: Valentine’s Day is all about love. That’s why by briefly looking at a great poem about true love and by briefly looking at God’s Valentine, who is the greatest expression of True Love, this blogger hopes to give the hopelessly romantic individuals a new way to think of Valentine’s Day.

To begin, it is evident, in the above quoted lines from Sonnet 116, that what Shakespeare is saying about the true love that exists between husband and wife, God also is saying the same thing, via Paul in the previously cited 2 Corinthians 11:2-3, and via Christ Jesus in the above referenced Matthew 25:1-13. What God is saying in these mentioned Scriptures is that He created a True and constant LOVE between a husband and wife, which Shakespeare agrees neither alters during good or easy times nor alters during bad or difficult times. That is why, to God and to Shakespeare, love cannot be TRUE LOVE, if it changes for any reason.

By using the North Star metaphor, which Shakespeare declares is a constant (the True Love) in sailors’ lives (cf. line 7), Shakespeare also is saying that TRUE LOVE is a constant in married couples’ lives. Thus, since TRUE LOVE is constant, it will not fade with time, for according to Shakespeare, “Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,/But bears it out even to the edge of doom” (Sonnet 116, lines 11-12). In other words, TRUE LOVE is timeless. Also, Shakespeare is saying that it is only after death that TRUE LOVE ever can leave!

There can be no doubt that the “‘Til death do we part” wedding vow rings true in the just quoted Shakespearean lines 11-12. Likewise, this “‘Til death do we part” wedding vow also definitely echoes Matthew 19:4-6. There are other Scriptures, too, that undeniably say that God made male and female so that they could understand, through their marital experiences, the intimate nature of their unique oneness relationship. Put differently, earthly marriage is symbolic of the spiritual union between Christ Jesus and believing mankind.

Indeed, it is the intimate marital relationship between husband and wife that corresponds to the spiritual relationship between Christ Jesus (Bridegroom) and the collective Body of Believers (Bride)—Christian males and Christian females. For this reason, only Christ Jesus can be the Husband of the collective Body of Believers, or His Wife, who includes believing males and believing females. Furthermore, it is this TRUE LOVE spiritual relationship that concerns God the most.

The point here is that, contrary to popular opinions, God neither redeemed nor purchased a city (New Jerusalem; cf. Revelation 21:9-10). The Scriptures make it clear that, in the beginning, God chose ONLY human beings to love so deeply that He would create a salvation plan for them so that He could get fallen men and fallen women living in a fallen world to return to Him (cf. John 3:16). Consequently, through the atoning sacrifice of Christ Jesus, believing males and believing females have been redeemed and purchased so that they could become His spotless Bride. Thus, if some men have a problem with being called the Bridegroom’s Bride, then they need to get over that, especially if they are hoping to be counted in the Rapture.

For the abovementioned reasons, it should be obvious that the Revelations 19:7-9 verses absolutely are about the Bride, Christ Jesus’ Wife, and it is clear that She is the one who has made Herself ready for Him. In other words, it is the Bride who has chosen to prepare Herself for Her Husband, Christ Jesus, by dressing Herself in fine linen.  For sure, ONLY a human being can dress him or herself, but it takes God to make a city ready, in this case, the purified New Jerusalem (cf. Revelation 21:10). That’s why the fine linen in Revelation 19:8b is defined as the “…righteous deeds of the saints” rather than the righteous acts of the holy city!

Now, how does all of this relate to Valentine’s Day? Well, legends have it that Valentine’s Day is a celebration of the sacrificial kind of love St. Valentine (a Roman priest, Italian bishop, and/or a martyr living in a Roman province in Africa) demonstrated when he laid down his life for his friends. This is why Valentine’s Day is all about love, and why this holiday has become to be all about giving the best valentine gift, as well as why that best valentine gift is considered to be the gift of ourselves, which we give to the ones we love the most.

Having said that, it needs to be pointed out here that there can be no doubt that God has demonstrated His True Love for us by giving this world the best Valentine gift ever, who is Christ Jesus, believers’ spiritual True Love. Certainly it is widely accepted that God has given Himself in His Son, who became the personification of His “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13, ESV) saying, which speaks of the God kind of True Love.

That is why on this Valentine’s Day, after having their spiritual insight renewed about Christ Jesus being God’s Valentine gift to the true Bride of Christ, His genuine Bride then should focus on what the Lord’s Valentine gift means to them. Since He is indeed the Giver of the greatest Love that this world has ever known, or will ever know, then, after spending some time reflecting, Christ Jesus’ true Bride should share His True Love with everyone!

Christ Is More Than Our Fire Insurance

It is sad to say, but so many Christians became Christians only because they wanted to qualify for God’s fire insurance. If we are true believers, then it should be apparent to us that Jesus the Christ wants to be more to us than the ONE who provides our fire insurance.

That’s right! Jesus the Christ wants to be more to us than someone who just saves us from eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire. He wants us to recognize Him not only as our Savior but also as our brother, advocate, healer, Lord, and so much more. In other words, Jesus the Christ not only wants us to have eternal life but also an abundant life right here on Earth. He wants us to live an incredibly wealthy life—a life full of God’s favor, love, and kindness, as well as a life full of the oneness and peace that are in the Lord!

That is why Jesus the Christ’s death doesn’t just reconcile and restore us back to a right relationship with God. Incontestably, by sacrificing His life, Jesus the Christ also succeeds in destroying the whole system of the Jewish Law—that system which established the wall of hostility that separated Gentiles from Hebrews. By breaking down the wall that separated us (Hebrews and Gentiles), Jesus the Christ also makes peace between us by making ALL nations/ethnicities ONE Body of believers.

Now, we who are Gentiles are no longer outsiders by birth. We no longer live in this lost world without God and without hope, because after we accepted Jesus the Christ as our Lord and Savior we became members of God’s household of faith and members of His Holy Temple for the Lord—One Body in Jesus the Christ.

Thus, our Lord’s atoning sacrifice makes it possible for us (true believers) to come to the Father through the Holy Spirit! Let us then not come into God’s presence just to thank Him for our eternal life away from the Lake of Fire. Let us also thank God for filling us with endless spiritual treasures—the fullness of His life and His power—that ONLY have been made available to us because of Jesus the Christ! AMEN.

“Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby” (Ephesians 2:15-16, KJV; cf. Romans 6:6; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 1:22).
