Mental Assenters: Unregenerate, Unsaved Sinners

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. ~ Revelation 3:20

No one is reborn or saved by Grace through faith if he or she only agrees that the Bible is true but never acts on the preached Word – is never moved to repent and become totally committed to the Word’s Author (YeHoVaH) and to His Son nor moved to surrender and become totally obedient to YeHoVaH’s Commandments – all of them. The less than one hundred percent committed person, as well as the less than one hundred percent obedient person, is merely operating in the Mental Assent realm.

Sadly, every mental assenter who claims that because he or she believes the Bible is true means that he or she also believes in YeHoVaH and Yeshua, is lying to him or herself – especially when it is obvious that each mental assenter’s actions deny what he or she claims. The uncomfortable truth is that every mental assenter’s actions will deny what he or she claims because he or she has never been regenerated (reborn) or saved.

Now, while the Bible does say that salvation is a free gift, this biblical truth has come to mean to some people that salvation is “easy.” On the contrary, the Bible makes it clear that everyone who accepts Yeshua as his or her Lord and Savior is then reborn and saved, and the main result of his or her rebirth and salvation is a noticeably changed life.

The incorrect interpretation of what the Bible says about regeneration and salvation is found in modern evangelicalism. Today’s evangelists teach that all a lost soul needs to do to get into Heaven is to repeat their sinner’s prayer and he or she will have what this person prayed for – instant regeneration and salvation. This unbiblical teaching – the sinner’s prayer – has produced far too many people who have fallen prey to an “easy believism” belief. The foremost reason why the “easy believism” in modern evangelicalism’s sinner’s prayer never produces reborn and saved believers is that the invitation to repeat a sinner’s prayer never requires unbelievers to repent.

The bottom line is that there is no regeneration and no salvation without repentance. There is no repentance if someone never has a heartfelt conviction about his or her sins. Only a person who is genuinely convicted about sin will realize how offensive his or her sinful actions, emotions, beliefs, and lifestyle are to YeHoVaH. In other words, this person will feel contrite. His or her deep sorrow will cause this person to grieve over how offensive and rebellious his or her sinful actions, emotions, beliefs, and lifestyle are to YeHoVaH.

Moreover, it is only after a person has become truly sorrowful unto repentance that he or she is then reborn and saved. That’s right! it is authentic repentance that leads to the forgiveness of sin, the human spirit’s regeneration (new birth), the living soul’s salvation (the reconciliation and restoration of a believer’s spiritual fellowship with YeHoVaH), justification, and sanctification. This biblical and spiritual process is why no one can turn away from sin towards YeHoVaH and His holiness if he or she has not first repented his or her sins. Furthermore, this repentance truth is why genuine repentance is not simply a “rethinking” of someone’s relationship to sin and YeHoVaH after that person repeats a sinner’s prayer.

Once again, there is no regeneration and no salvation without repentance. Put differently, there can be no obvious change for the better in anyone’s former nature and lifestyle without that person’s real repentance experience. For this reason, an unrepentant believer in Yeshua and YeHoVaH – anyone who is not profoundly sorry about sinning; a person who does not really regret sinning – is still unregenerate and unsaved. As such, there is no way that this person can turn away from sin and turn toward YeHoVaH and His Holiness.

Sadly, all mental assenters are still unregenerate and unsaved. Once again, mental assenters only agree that the Bible is true but never act on the preached Word. They are never moved to repent and become totally committed to the Word’s Author (YeHoVaH) and to His Son, nor are they moved to surrender and become totally obedient to all of YeHoVaH’s Commandments.

In most cases, mental assenters are unregenerate and unsaved because they didn’t hear sermons on the true meaning of repentance, which would include instructions on what it means to receive Yeshua, what it means to confess Him as Lord and Savior, or how to be faithful to Him and obedient to YeHoVaH’s Commandments. These mental assenters were only asked to repeat a sinner’s prayer. However, there are also some mental assenters who did hear sermons on the true meaning of repentance but decided to pick and choose what they want to believe in the Word.

Lastly, those Christian evangelists who teach that a lost soul can be instantly saved when he or she repeats a sinner’s prayer have misused Revelation 3:20. First, in this verse, Yeshua is speaking to the confused, carnal, and lukewarm Laodicean who were reborn and saved believers who desperately needed to repent their current lifestyle. This truth is why YeHoVaH never intended for Revelation 3:20 to be used as an evangelistic sinner’s prayer Gospel tract that only encourages an unsaved person to invite Yeshua into their hearts. The best evangelistic Gospel tracts contain a succinct presentation of YeHoVaH’s Law, the Gospel of Yeshua, and a call for the readers to REPENT so that they can accept and receive Yeshua HaMashiach as their Lord and Savior.

Secondly, but most importantly, the word “heart” is not mentioned in Revelation 3:20. Moreover, the confused, carnal, lukewarm believers in the Laodicean ekklesia never asked Yeshua to do anything for them – especially not to come into their hearts because He was already there. He, however, was excluded from their fellowship assemblies.  So the Laodicean ekklesia needed to be restored – needed to repair their relationship with Yeshua by improving and expanding on their previous relationship with Him, beginning with including Him in their fellowship assemblies.  This biblical truth is why it is Yeshua who, in Revelation 3:20, does the asking. He asks the Laodiceans to hear His Voice. He promises to restore their fellowship with Him if they would hear His Voice AND open the door that allows Him to communicate with all of them at the same time.

When compared to Revelation’s Laodicean ekklesia, it is obvious that the problem with mental assenters is that they are not carnal believers, as many Christians call them. Mental assenters are unsaved individuals who are victims of an “easy believism” belief, as it relates to
the complete process of salvation. In other words, an “easy believism” belief is an unbiblical interpretation of Yeshua’s Gospel, repentance, regeneration, salvation, faith, and obedience. Therefore, today’s mental assenters are not confused, carnal, or lukewarm Laodicean believers who spiritually closed the fellowship door in Yeshua’s Face. Mental assenters are still unrepentant unbelievers – sinners who never had their old natures (spirits) reborn and who never had their living souls saved.

A word to the wise should be sufficient.

Twice-Dried Trees

Balaam, Cain, contenders for the faith, deceived and devoted apostates, doubly infertile, doubly unfaithful, doubly unfruitful, Korah, sin unto death, twice-dried trees, unregenerate, unrepentant, warning

Age-Old Tree Near The Pavilion of One Thousand Autumns in Forbidden City, Beijing

But these people scoff at things they do not understand. Like unthinking animals, they do whatever their instincts tell them, and so they bring about their own destruction. What sorrow awaits them! For they follow in the footsteps of Cain, who killed his brother. Like Balaam, they deceive people for money. And like Korah, they perish in their rebellion. When these people eat with you in your fellowship meals commemorating the Lord’s love, they are like dangerous reefs that can shipwreck you. They are like shameless shepherds who care only for themselves. They are like clouds blowing over the land without giving any rain. They are like trees in autumn that are doubly dead, for they bear no fruit and have been pulled up by the roots. ~ Jude 1:10-12, NLT

Seduced by devils,

End-times’ faith dissenters

Defile their bodies,

Despise authority,

Speak evil of decorum.

Once appreciative of Christ’s love for the world,

Now unstable deniers,

Lewd, ignorant, and bestial in nature,

Possessing Cain’s self-righteousness,

Balaam’s money covetousness,

Korah’s ‘wannabe’ leader usurping arrogance.

Instead of King David’s envisioned sturdy, fruitful trees

Whose leaves never wither,

Apostates are twice-dried trees:

Righteously unfruitful—born spiritually dead—morally unproductive.

Converted to fruit trees, then barren trees.

Doubly unfaithful—grew consciously iniquitous—doubly infertile.

Like homicidal Cain who slew his brother, or

The vicious, rebellious fallen angels, or

Sodom and Gomorrah’s sexual deviants, or

The faithless, wandering Israelites, or

Seditious Korah and his followers, or

Avaricious, devious Balaam,

Yesterday’s and today’s apostates

Teach heretical doctrines,

Live blameworthy lives,

Some commit unto death sin—

The deliberate, willful, continuous, unrepentant sin.

These are biblical apostates…

They’re either deceived or devoted.

Deceived:

Cain, condemned to be a fugitive and vagabond;

Balaam, forbidden to curse Israelites.

Symbolize those who can be prayed for,

Those who still can be “saved”;

Scorched, rescued: smelling like smoke;

Plucked from Hell’s fire.

Devoted:

Chained unto Judgment Day angels in Tartarus;

Swallowed up Korah, his family, and his friends by Earth;

Rained upon Sodom, Gomorrah’s dwellers with igneous sulfur, fire;

Perished in wilderness Israelites from Egypt;

Vomited unregenerate Blind Guides into Tribulation.

Symbolize those who cannot be prayed for,

Those who cannot be “saved”;

Fruitless, uprooted:  twice-dried trees;

Thrown into Lake of Fire, eternally “lost”….

Being Spiritual Means First Being Born Again

Many people are familiar with the Bible’s passages that deal with Jesus explaining to Nicodemus why he must be born again, yet many of these same people are still blind about their own born-again condition. They are unaware that being redeemed and being born again are not synonymous. They also simply do not understand that being born again (regenerated) is an imperative. In other words, they fail to understand that their new birth has to be achieved before their salvation can be received.

Jesus teaches Nicodemus that, unless his human spirit is changed so that he can begin his life anew, he will not be able to enter into Heaven. To make sure that Nicodemus thoroughly understands the importance of Jesus’ born again command, Jesus adds, “…The truth is, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born again of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives new life from heaven” (John 3:5-6, NLT).

Now although many theologians teach that the “water” Jesus refers to in John 3:5 is the physical birth (human beings’ first birth), which is accompanied by a flow of watery amniotic fluid, in truth, the “water” Jesus is making a reference to is the spiritual cleansing performed by the washing of the Word of God. Since the Word of God also is called the Living Water of Jesus the Christ, then Jesus the Christ is saying that God’s Holy Spirit will use the Living Water to perform the necessary regeneration that human beings must experience before God’s spiritual purification (sanctification) process can continue in them. Thus, human beings’ dead spirits first must be born again before people can become spiritual, but the only way for human beings to be born again is for them to experience the rebirth of their human spirits that only God’s Grace, which is activated by the power of His Holy Spirit, can make happen. Indeed, no man or woman can become spiritual without first experiencing the regenerating operation of the Grace of God and the power of His Holy Spirit that work together, simultaneously, in order to create humans’ new birth status.

Unfortunately, there are far too many believers, in Christian churches and ministries, who are using the term “born again” to refer to “something” that human beings do under their own strength, power, and predilection; they insist that being born again is a decision, or a commitment, or a rededication they make. However, as already stated, the new birth that Jesus the Christ speaks about is “something” that only the Grace and Power of God can make happen. Consequently, a person is not born again because he or she confesses, repents, believes and accepts, but a person confesses, repents, believes and accepts because God’s Holy Spirit already has regenerated him or her! Regeneration, then, is solely the work of God’s Grace through the power of His Holy Spirit, and not the work of men and women!

Since being born again is wholly, completely, and supremely because of God’s Holy Spirit power and His marvelous Grace, by God’s design, humans are not participating in their new birth, because nothing they do, say or think can influence their regeneration. Once their human spirits experience the new birth, then the Holy Spirit is able to convict them about their need to be aware of their sins, to accept responsibility for their sins, and to confess (agree with God about) their sin-guilt awareness (an awareness of their born in sin nature). Therefore, it is during the initial and subsequent Holy Spirit convictions that follow individuals’ born again experience that humans become active participants in God’s plan of redemption.

Once again, individuals’ active participation in their own salvation begins immediately after their spiritually dead human spirits (their spiritual hearts) have been regenerated (reborn). It is at this point in God’s redemption plan that people sincerely can confess their awareness of and accountability for their sins, confess their specific sins, repent their specific sins, confess that they believe in the Lord Jesus the Christ, and accept Him as their personal Savior. Their confessions, belief and acceptance will bring about their justification. After they have been justified by Jesus the Christ’s righteousness, which means they have been put in right standing with God, the Holy Spirit who is now inside them is able to begin to sanctify (transform) them into the image of Christ. However, if believers do not cooperate with the Holy Spirit (participate in His sanctification process), the Holy Spirit cannot mature believers’ born-again spirits and, thus, He will not be able to change the way their unregenerate (stubborn) minds think!

So, what does being spiritual really mean? To a true believer, being spiritual means being born again by the Grace of God and the mighty working power of the Holy Spirit so that the indwelling and infilling Holy Spirit can begin and conclude the sanctifying process of spiritually maturing believers in their faith. Once again, no person can become spiritual without first experiencing God’s Grace and the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit, which work in tandem.

Finally, being spiritual means that a born again, saved believer now is more concerned about the well-being of his or her soul, the Mercy and Grace of God, and the importance of eternity, as opposed to his or her carnal concerns about the pleasures of the flesh; the profits of money, fame, and material possessions; the restrictions of time; and/or the limitations of the five senses (seeing, tasting, feeling, smelling, and hearing). In essence, truly spiritual beings are those who have been reconnected to their Creator and Father God through their initial new birth and their subsequent justification. Moreover, their new birth and justification are Creator, Father God’s redemption plan experiences that permit spiritual beings not only to be able to have a Father-child relationship but also to be able to fellowship with their Father God (who is Spirit) by worshipping Him in Spirit and Truth.

For the Potential Graduate: Why Not Experience New Life After Death In 2009?

cycles, death, enslaved, eternal, grace, judgment, Lake of Fire, nature, phases, rebirth, resurrection, saved, supernatural, unregenerate, unsaved, wrath

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die like everyone else, will live again. They are given eternal life for believing in me and will never perish. Do you believe this, Martha?“ (John 11:25-26, NLT; cf. John 3:16)

Nature and mankind have much in common, and God planned it that way. Indeed, nature not only depicts how this old Earth renews itself but also nature reflects how humans renew themselves through their natural nightly sleep and restoration, and daily waking patterns. Nature also mirrors the supernatural (spiritual life). For sure, humanity’s spiritual and physical deaths, new birth/second birth or resurrection, salvation, sanctification, and eternal life phases also can be seen through nature’s four seasons.

Although we don’t like to think about death, death is a fact of nature, which is why Hebrews 9:27 reminds us that we all are born to die at least once. Because of the first Adam’s disobedience, we all are born spiritually dead, which is why we all not only must face a physical death but also must experience a second death (i.e., an eternity in the Lake of Fire)!

But hold on; there is GOOD NEWS. The GOOD NEWS is that God promises us that He will give us new life after death. Once again, this resurrection promise is seen best in nature. Just as the Earth dies each Fall, sleeps throughout Winter, awakens in Spring, and ripens during Summer, we who have been born again and saved from the wrath of God yet to come upon this old Earth not only must die daily, but also we must face many dying, resting, blossoming, and maturing seasons in our own lives.

Let there be no doubt about it, the true Gospel of the Grace of God in Christ puts the cross of Christ before us and then commands us to undergo our own death, burial and resurrection—to die to our mortal flesh in order to be resurrected unto eternal life in Christ. God’s Holy Spirit also teaches us that unless we experience an abrupt end to everything we are by nature, unless we have the shackles of sin completely broken off of us, God cannot raise us up into our new life in Christ (cannot justify, sanctify, or glorify us).

Now, for those of us living today who have experienced the new birth/second birth and become those saved and sold out for Christ believers who die daily, God’s GOOD NEWS also is that we neither will face a physical death nor the second death! We instead will be caught up (raptured) to meet Christ in the air, and forever we will be with Him. This last GOOD NEWS is why our earnest prayer in 2009 is for the unregenerate, unsaved people to not risk falling asleep one more night without having experienced God’s new life after death (being born again, saved, justified, and sanctified).

We do not want anybody to die a physical death (don’t want anyone to never awake again to a brand new morning), if he or she hasn’t been born again and accepted Jesus the Christ as Lord and Savior, because Hebrews 9:27 not only tells us that humans are born to die at least once but also that humans will face God’s judgment that will come after their deaths! God’s final irrevocable judgment for the ones who died with their sinful natures still intact is a resurrection unto damnation—an eternity in the Lake of fire!

Time is running out for this old Earth, and for the people who live on it. God’s soon to come wrath (judgment) will usher in a dying season unlike none that mankind has ever seen before. For the unregenerate, unsaved people there very well could be no more chances to awaken, bloom, and ripen in Christ through the Holy Spirit. Therefore, now is the time to take God up on His new life after death promise and graduate from being a sinner enslaved by sin to a sinner saved by Grace!!!

Can you dig it!
